Video Editing on the iPad

Video Editing on the iPad

A lot of folks were expecting more of a Minority Report style interface on the iPad, instead of the familiar iPhone like OS we got.

But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. One area that could be very interesting is a video editing application for the iPad. Such a thing already exists on the iPhone, ReelDirector [$7.99 App Store Link] and it works surprisingly well. More after the jump….

5 Reasons Why The Apple Tablet Will Fail

5 Reasons Why The Apple Tablet Will Fail

Readers of this blog will note that Tasty Slate is unabashedly fanboyish when it comes to all things Apple and tablet related. That said, not everyone has their spinning propeller hat ready to roll just yet. So, let’s look at the other side of the coin for a moment and please feel free to add your own thoughts in the comments for pro/con or other reasons we should add. Apple’s Desktops to Disappear Eventually?

Apple’s Desktops to Disappear Eventually?

The Appleblog offers up an interesting op-ed piece today regarding the future of desktop Macs as their portable, iPhone, iPod and soon to be tablet computers take a larger and larger share of the pie, literally.

The trend lines are no friend of the Mac desktop. For 2009, seven out of ten Macs sold were laptops, and in 2010 that ratio will likely rise to three out of four. While this may explain the single table of iMacs in the back of my local Apple Store, the question now becomes: is the Mac desktop doomed?

Steve Jobs once described Apple’s business model as an uncomfortable piece of furniture, a three-legged stool. What he was getting at is where the money comes from: Macs, iPods and the iTunes Store, and the iPhone.

Kindle for iPhone – Gives Books and The Real Kindle a Run For Their Money

Kindle for iPhone – Gives Books and The Real Kindle a Run For Their Money

As we move into the Apple Tablet era I wanted to test drive what the experience might be like so I downloaded the Amazon Kindle for iPhone Reader [FREE AppStore] from the iTunes Store. Kindle for iPhone is meant as a standalone or companion to an Amazon Kindle eBook reader. You can shop for books online using your Amazon.com account, purchase, download and read all in this clever little application.

Kindle for iPhone is a very light download so you’ll be up and running in no time, you just need to enter your Amazon.com account details. Then you are taken into a Safari browser session to pick out books. Couple of nice features, you can download decent sized free samples of any book you’re interested in and if you have a Kindle it will automatically sync up so you have one copy on the Kindle and one for the iPhone. I chose a cookbook about making Japanese food.

WSJ Makes Apple Tablet Official

WSJ Makes Apple Tablet Official

Apparently the Wall Street Journal still has journalistic integrity, i.e. they don’t pass on every last unsourced rumor the web is happy to. So when they write up a deeply detailed description of Apple’s tablet plans to be unveiled on January 27th, we’re supposed to take this as gospel. Right? In a nutshell, what’s in store is massive changes to the ways we interact with textbooks, newspapers, magazines and cable TV. Here’s some highlights:

Apple’s Tablet Named – iPad?

Apple’s Tablet Named – iPad?

This just in from The Next Web and The Jesus Tablet:

Apple has apparently filed multiple requests in the US to stake claim to a disputed “iPad” trademark currently claimed by Fujitsu.

Apple is already deep into the filing process for claiming the trademark in Europe, Canada, and Hong Kong, but due to a small retail device sold in the US — the iPad, made by Fujitsu Transaction Solutions — Apple’s had difficulty securing the name.
